Questioning Technology Use in Educational Reform: From Ideological, Theoretical and Practical Perspectives

Since the publication of “Nation at Risk” in 1983, educational policymakers have associated reform with the infusion of information and computer technologies (ICT) into schools. Therefore, billions of dollars have been spent on actualising this policy. Using the critical theory as a framework, this paper criticises whether it has been a wise decision given the reality of monetary and political investment. Furthermore, fundamental issues germane to the conversation about the efficacy of using ICT as an instructional tool or system and what characterises effective integration of ICT in educational settings are being discussed from ideological, theoretical and practical perspectives.
